How to Disappear Article Two

Article 2:  Pre-Planning and Understanding What You Will Face

Pre-Planning is essential in helping you decide whether to go or not to go. You will be facing many tough decisions. Like I said before, nothing about this is easy. You will have to give up a lot to gain your freedom.  Have you thought about losing your college degree? If you’re losing your identity, you’ll be losing your education.  This will limit your options when you look for work. You can learn how to vanish with your identity intact, but it’s not easy.

Keeping that sort of thing in mind, start planning your new identities story. You will need this just to fit in to the crowd. Think about what it will be like if you can’t answer simple questions about your self.

Another option is to not have a story and just stay tight lipped, but is that realistic? We humans are social characters. Most of us crave social interaction. You can give a lot of information away during getting to know you chit chat.  Pay attention to what you’re saying. Learn how to subtly control a conversation.

Now is a good time to mention an important tip. Do your planning on paper, and find a safe place to hide the papers. When you are done with the papers, destroy them.  Paper should always be burned in a safe place of course.

Start thinking about who will be looking for you , and how they will try to find you. Lets start with family. Chances are someone would be worried about you. They might (or probably would) call the police, hire a private investigator, contact the media, or a combination of all three. Consider having a cover story. A good cover story can make the police lose their motivation, or have no interest in looking for you at all.

By way of example, if you sent your family a letter that simply said you were leaving town and no longer wanted contact, you would be in much better shape than if you simply disappeared. The police search for missing people, not people that have stated they are leaving. The media doesn’t run stories about people who just leave. This would leave you with only a PI to deal with.

Keep in mind that the rules change if you have children under the age of 18. Especially if you are the primary bread winner. The police can and WILL hunt you down for abandonment and for child support. Keep in mind that the world isn’t fair. If you are a man who abandons his family, you will be searched for more aggressively than a woman who does the same.

Another step to take is to consider ways you can change your personal appearance. This is a great chance to consider who it is you want to be in your new life. You can look like, and be whoever you like. Consider purchasing some clothes that are out of character. Remember to keep any items you purchase to change your appearance out of sight sso you won’t raise suspicion. Make sure you also dispose of these items in a safe neutral place so you won’t leave any clues. Just remember that the most important thing is to blend in. Sticking out in a crowd increases you chances of being noticed by authorities.

A very important pre-planning step is to consider where you will go. Will you stay in the US (or what ever your country of origin is)? Can you afford, and will you go to another country? If so how will you hide your assets? Asset protection and identity protection are two very important goals for people of means.

How will you get there? Boarding a plane with your current ID isn’t going to be an option if you plan to move away untracked.  Think about good places to hide and good points of exit. We’ll discuss these points further in a later article. We’ll discuss the pros and cons of places to start your new identity. Use your imagination, and try to make this an adventure of sorts. It will make all the hard things you have to do easier.

Think about foreign language. Do you need to learn one to get by? Learning Spanish can help you if you’re going overseas, but it can also help in living in the fringe of society in the US as well.
