How to Disappear, Step One

Article 1: Getting Started

It doesn’t matter who you are trying to hide from. The steps will be the same. There are only two differences. Are you going to escape with money, or with out? We will discuss ways to hide your money, and protect your assets much later.

The first step is mental. Prepare to cut your ties. If you are planning to disappear and not be found, you will have to give up all of your personal and professional ties. You will have to give up any personal belongings that can help you be tracked or identified. We’ll get more detailed later, but you need start asking yourself if you can live without these things.

Are you prepared to live without your laptop, iPhone, or car? Can you leave your family and friends behind? All of them? You can’t trust a soul with the details of your disappearance. You can’t trust friends or family. You also can’t break down six months in to it and call them from a payphone just to say hi. We’ll be talking about electronic surveillance later. Lets just say you will reveal your location if you’re not careful. We’ll also talk about ways to make calls that are harder to be tracked later.

Begin to understand and accept that you will be lonely and alone for a significant amount of time. At the start of this adventure you will have to be on the move. Even if you disappear with a certain amount of your money you will have to live on the fringe and not spend money in a way that will attract attention to yourself.

If you are not able to disappear with funds you need to be prepared to wait tables or do odd jobs. This will not be glamorous or easy work. I don’t know what you are doing for a living now, but you may have to accept this as a way of life for a time.

Stay crime free. If you are hiding from a criminal act or an obligation such as child support, you will get caught. The government will be actively looking for you. Any law you break will bring attention to yourself and can get you caught. The penalties for false identities have increased since September 11th 2001. Keep your nose clean or go to jail.

Did you think it was going to be easy? It won’t. In this day in age with nationwide media, electronic surveillance, and counter-terrorism activity, it is harder than ever to disappear. Keeping a low profile, and keeping your nose clean can help make it happen.

An additional note:

You may be trying to escape from an abusive relationship. If this is the case, there are groups out there to help you. These groups can hide you and give you food and shelter. I urge you to seek help from these groups instead of running away. It doesn’t matter if you are a man or a woman. If you take the kids and run, the police will be looking for you. You could be charged with kidnapping etc. Please seek help from professionals.

How to Fake Your Own Death and Get Caught (Ari Squire)

Stories of People Who Faked Their Own Death… And Got Caught Part 2

Ari Squire was convicted of over billing Medicare for over $800,000. He decided to escape his conviction by committing a murder. He then used the body to fake his own death. He conspired with his wife so he could escape and commit insurance fraud.

Ari became acquainted with a Home Depot employee who looked like him and had the same build. Ari tricked the man in to coming to his house by offering him some work on the side. He then killed the man and started the fire and made it look like an accident.

Ari then made his escape after having his wife call 911 to report him dead. The police were initial taken in by this ruse. They became suspicious several days later when Ari’s mother called to report him missing.

Squire then assumed the identity of the man he killed. Police learned of his location after finding emails he and his wife were exchanging. In his emails, he detailed his location, how he had altered his appearance, and asked how their scheme was going.

Ari shot himself in the head in his hotel room as police moved in to make an arrest. His wife is under indictment for her role in the crimes. The family of the murdered man is suing the squire estate in civil court for wrongful death.

How awful…

I think you can clearly see that a complicated scam gives you a lot more opportunity to make a mistake and get caught. If you want to vanish, if you want to disappear, you will have to sacrifice and make some careful planning.

How to Disappear, And Get Caught (John Darwin)

Stories of People Who Faked Their Own Death… And Got Caught

If you needed some convincing… Here it is. These are stories about people who though they were smart enough to fake their own death and get away. I guess they watched too many spy movies. You’re probably not smart enough to get away with it. And if you’re not smart enough to get away with it, you’re not smart enough to evade a motivated police force.

Let’s start with the story of John Darwin. John Darwin was a former science teacher who faked his own death to collect the insurance money. Sounds like a great movie plot right?

John and his wife decided to go in to the rental business. They bought several properties and began to rent them out. They fell on hard times, and suddenly found themselves in a great deal of debt.  This large amount of debt seems to been the reason behind their scheme to fake John’s death and defraud his insurance company.

The former science teacher was a nature lover. He enjoyed canoeing. He was last seen paddling out to sea. He was reported missing later that day when he failed to show up for work. They local authorities mounted a search, but nothing was found except his paddle. The next day his damaged canoe was found.

John Darwin is declared dead a year later as no body was found. His “widow” receives a check from the insurance company, and their mortgage is paid of through a death benefit clause. In total they receive about $214,000.

During all this time, John has been living in an apartment he owned with his wife. The couple even allowed their own children to believe John was dead.

Their plan is to move over seas, take the money, and run. John applies for a passport using the identity of a baby that passed away shortly after birth. The couple travels to panama where they purchase a home and plan to run canoe tours.

John’s wife returns home to sell their property. She is overheard by a coworker speaking to her “deceased” husband on the phone. They coworker reports her and the authorities re-open the case.

It turns out John Darwin couldn’t take life on the run. He missed his wife and he especially missed his sons who he had not seen or spoken to since he faked his own death.  John shows up at a London police station five years after his disappearance. He claims he has amnesia, and remembers nothing about the last five years.

Four days later the couple is confronted with pictures taken of them together in Panama, and Mrs. Darwin breaks down and confesses. When the truth comes out, The Darwin children are angry and decide they want no further contact with their parents. Sadly and ironically, missing his children is the reason for John Darwin’s return.

On July 23rd 2008, The Darwin’s were convicted of fraud, insurance fraud, and passport fraud. It seems to me like they lost everything, including their family. There are legal ways to protect your money and investments. There are legal ways to vanish (conceal your identity) and protect your property and assets.

How to Vanish and Get Caught

How to Get Caught

So you want to vanish? You want to disappear? Maybe you have some schemes and grand designs about smuggling your money overseas. You’re going to fake your own death and escape the country flying first class on a fake ID. You’ll live in the islands, go to casinos, and live like James Bond. Wrong!

All of those things sound cool. They read well in a book and look great in a movie. They’re fiction. Get in touch with reality and understand that you’re probably not that smart. Understand that the police are not that stupid. You will get caught, and you could end up in some crazy South American jail. Do you think the have cable TV in a South American jail? Probably not.

Faking your own death is a crime. You read about people who get caught trying it every year.  Fake ID? Also a crime. False documents carry a much stiffer penalty since September 11, 2001.

You don’t have to be a super spy to get off the grid. It’s not about a fake identity. It’s really about concealing your identity. It’s about minimizing your ability to be traced, and minimizing your ability to be taxed.

It’s not about smuggling your money. It’s about tax havens and offshore accounts. It’s about saving some of your money in silver and gold as opposed to savings accounts.  It’s about prepaid credit cards as opposed to briefcases full of cash. You will be better off if you drop the romantisism and except the fact that this takes cool careful planning.

It’s not about James Bond watches with radios in them. It’s really about pay as you go cellular. Cheap phones that you can dispose of from time to time. It’s about minimizing your profile online so you are harder to keep track of.

Just to make sure you get the point, I’m going to follow this article with several articles about people who got caught. People who thought they had a great plan and didn’t. After reading these, you will want to continue reading my posts to give you real ideas, and an honest plan to help you disappear legally.

How to Disappear an Overview

We’re not here to discuss the reasons someone would want to disappear. You know why you want to vanish. We’re here to discuss the various ways you can disappear. In general, there are three ways you can disappear. There are two legal ways, and the less than legal way. You can also vanish digitally. You can make yourself harder to find and your identity harder to steal.

Let me state this up front. You can get in a lot of legal trouble for disappearing in a less than reputable way. You can also be exposed to personal danger etc…  Understand that this less than reputable way will expose you to criminal elements. The truth is that if you truly want to vanish, you need to stay away from criminals and illegal acts as they could bring you to the attention of the authorities. The drawback to doing it the legal way is that to do it well, you need a reserve of cash, or items that can be converted into cash.

It is possible to vanish digitally. You can lower your online profile and reduce your chances of being a victim of identity theft and stalkers. You can also learn to minimize your tax profile, and you can do it all legally.

The third way is the way you can disappear with your assets intact. You can learn to vanish and take your assets with you. This is somewhat complicated, and I will be writing it last.  Finding tax havens etc are complicated and I want to make sure that you have the best and most current information possible.

I will also talk about life after vanishing. Life can be hard when you disappear, especially if you don’t have some savings to take with you. There are ways to make it in this world, and we’ll talk about those too.

Before we get started on what to do, we’ll discuss what not to do. I’ll show you some stories of people who made major mistakes, so you won’t make them. Let’s discuss how to disappear, and get caught!

What is Freedom? Why Would You Want to Disappear?

Freedom:  the condition of being free; the power to act or speak or think without externally imposed restraints
Why would you want to disappear? The definition above tells the whole truth. We are no longer free. I want to disappear because I am no longer free of government oppression, unfair taxation, and interference in my life. Our politicians are out of control, and I no longer think they can be reigned in. Ayn Rand was right. Atlas is shrugging, and I’m checking out.

Perhaps you feel oppressed by other life issues. Maybe you want to learn how to disappear because of your family life. Maybe you’re stuck in a bad marriage, or another dysfunctional family system. If it’s too hard to leave on the surface, maybe you’re ready to learn how to disappear.

If you’re ready to disappear, you need to realize that it takes serious commitment and a willingness to cut all your social and professional ties. It means moving farther than you can be recognized. It means moving farther than your local news can find you. It means living on the fringe for a time, perhaps forever.

How to Disappear, How to Vanish

There are many reasons a person would want to disappear. Maybe you are trying to escape your government’s oppression. Maybe you want to escape from oppressive or unfair taxation. Perhaps you want to vanish and leave your past behind or escape from your personal life. You would definitely want to disappear if you were facing personal danger and violence. You might be a victim of a stalker or domestic violence. Maybe you just want to vanish digitally from this world. You can help protect your identity and finances. There is another reason. You might learn to disappear so you could use that type of information to write a novel.

Would you like to live the dream? Would you like to vanish, hide your assets and live overseas. And it’s all legal. It’s not cheap, but it’s legal. We’re going talk about it all here.

Every person who wants to disappear has their reasons. I personally don’t care what you’re reason is. It’s none of my business. I’m just posting this information here to help you disappear if you want to.

Let me make one more point. You can only run from the law for so long. Police officers, detectives, and federal agents are highly motivated professionals. If you’ve done something wrong you should face the music. If you’re considering doing something wrong, you WILL be caught. If you’re thinking about skipping out on the wife and kids you had better understand the personal and financial cost.
