How to Disappear

Article 3: Where to Go in the US if You Want to Disappear

I’m going to list some places you can go if you want to disappear along with the pros and cons associated with those places. We’ll talk about place in and outside the US. Whether you are searching for a place to hide inside or outside the US you want the place to fall into a couple of categories.

Transient cities are some of the best places to hide. Places where people move in and out and never stay in one place long. Here are some examples of places in the US that are transient:

Los Angeles – People move in and out of LA all the time. There is also a large immigrant community that can help you with resources. You can also find plenty of day labor there if you are in need of cash. Soup kitchens suck, but you can get a meal and make connections there. Another positive is an overwhelmed police force that will not waste too much resource searching for an out of state missing person.

Miami to West Palm Beach – This is one of the most transient areas in the US. There is constant immigration from overseas, tourists, and people who live there seasonally to get away from cold winter weather. No one knows your name, and they don’t even make eye contact. You can easily hide out in the open in Southeastern FL. A drawback to this area is high crime. You really have to be careful when trying to obtain resources for yourself. Another drawback is a very savvy and alert police force. You really need to stay away from illegal activity like fraudulent IDs. They are adept at noticing these and you can get in some serious trouble.

New York City – One of the best places in the world to hide in a crowd. You’re safer here just because of the sheer number of people. Day labor and other resources are within reach here as well. One of the biggest drawbacks is the weather. If things get rough here and you have to do a little urban camping, you can lose your life. It’s very cold in the winter, and the summers can be brutal as all that concrete and steel retains heat.

The Southern US border areas – These areas are transient and have lots of resources. You can also find quick travel out of these areas. The drawbacks include heavy surveillance. The US Border Patrol has received better technology, more staff, and more resources in general. This area is not recommended for border crossing. The terrain is dangerous and so are the people. And don’t forget the above mentioned surveillance.

Buffalo, Detroit and the Northern US border - These areas are not as transient, but the inhabitants are Yankees and less inclined to start a conversation with you. Let’s be honest about how things are in the US. The US/Canadian border is under a lot less scrutiny than the Southern border. That doesn’t mean that the northern border is asleep, but you can’t be careless and act like a fool either.
